The story of Sergeant Built

Sergeant Built LLC is a full-service woodworking, cabinetry and carpentry firm. We do custom work with a focus on high-end carpentry, fine finishes and exotic woods. Our projects range from standard remodel work (interior trim, siding, decks, and finishes), to custom speaker boxes and durable marine cabinetry.

We are licensed, bonded and insured as WA contractors – Our team has a range of carpentry and remodel experience – Joel, our founder is a graduate of the Krenov School of Fine Woodworking, and has focused his career on high end woodworking products. We have a full service shop, and regularly work with some of the best finishers in the state. The sky is the limit on what we can do for you.

Joel McCoy

Joel is the founder and owner of Sergeant Built LLC. As a former U.S. Marine and graduate of the Krenov School of Fine Woodworking, He is uniquely qualified to both lead the company and output the finest quality furniture and custom woodwork.

Since retiring from the military in 2006 Joel has followed his passion for woodworking and sourcing exotic wood products. For ten years he ran his own fine furniture and cabinetry business in California. He has worked as a lead custom builder for a number of design groups and firms – specializing in luxury free standing staircases and fine furniture.

Joel is a national award-winning craftsman, who has worked closely with the Humboldt County Woodworking Society as a member of the board of directors. He has been chosen by his peers to jury fine furniture exhibitions, and teach fine woodworking seminars.

He lives with his wife and two sons in Pierce County, WA. He enjoys hunting, fishing, abalone diving, and trekking in the Pacific Northwest backcountry.

Jonathan

Jonathan is the CFO of Sergeant Built LLC, Jonathan frequently interacts with clients in regards to bids, invoices and contracts. On the back-end he takes care of company accounting, financial projections, licensing, payroll, and taxes.
